Natalie reflects on what International Women’s Day means…and what it certainly does not:
I’m not just a mother, a sister or a daughter…
I’m not “hey babe”, “Hey gorgeous” or “Hey girl.”
I don’t need a pink tool set or a pink razor or a pink hockey stick.
I wear makeup because I like it, not because I have to.
If I ask you “is that seat taken?” it doesn’t mean I want to go out with you
Yelling at me from your car while I walk down the street does not flatter me.
If I’m not in a mood that suits you, it doesn’t mean I’m PMSing.
I’m not eating salad or working out to impress you; I’m doing it to impress myself.
I like cosmos because they taste good – not because they’re pink.
If I’m single, it doesn’t mean I’m a spinster; If I’m married it doesn’t mean I’m a housewife.
I will smile when I damn well feel like it.
If I’m direct, it doesn’t mean I’m a bitch.
If I’m a boss, it doesn’t mean I’m bossy.
If I stand up for what I believe in, it doesn’t mean I’m a feminazi.
I can have it all – and I will have it all. Whatever that even means!
Women can be leaders; women can be inventors; women can make a difference!
My name is Natalie and I am a woman!
