A group in supporting a bid for a CFL team in Halifax has created a fiery debate over Twitter when it proposed naming the team the “Halifax Explosions.” The group calls themselves CFL Halifax and claims to be a “creative group that makes fan art to generate discussion.” People responded with tweets saying they would be profiting off the deaths of victims of the 1917 tragedy, others saying the name reflects power and force.
There will be no more Chief Wahoo logo for the Cleveland Indians this coming baseball season. The big-toothed, red-faced, head-dressed caricature has been the team’s logo since the 40’s despite many protests that it is insensitive. There is no word however, if the name of the team will change…
Halifax Regional Police are warning of an attempt at email extortion they call a “hitman” scam. Someone reported receiving an email that stated someone had been hired to kill him but the hit would be called off if he sent money. Police say to contact them right away if you receive a hitman scam message.
Tom Hanks has signed on to play Mr. Rogers in a film. The movie will be called “You Are My Friend” and will be about Fred Rogers’ friendship with a journalist. In other Mr. Rogers/big screen news, there’s a documentary on the host out soon called “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?”
