Remember when hanging out at your locker in between classes while you fetched your next textbook was a staple of high school life? Not anymore.
Some schools in the U.S. are phasing out lockers altogether. But why?
Maybe it’s simply teens are just not using them anymore: “Anyone with a high-schooler in their orbit knows that students now want everything they own with them all of the time,” writes The Washington Post.
There’s also the issue of size, as both backpacks and schools have gotten larger. Of his Maryland learning institution, Isabel Echavarria says, “My school is really big. It has four floors and a basement, and stopping in one specific location between each class would be ridiculous.”
