Today marks the 100 anniversary of the Halifax Explosion – the worst man-made disaster in Canada’s history. The Citadel’s cannon will fire a few hours early today – at 9:04 AM, marking the moment in time the explosion happened. A number of events will be taking place today to mark the centennial; most notably at Fort Needham Memorial Park beginning at 8:45 AM.
Russia has been officially banned from the 2018 Winter Olympics because they broke anti-doping rules. This is the most extreme punishment ever handed out by the Olympic committee – government officials will not be allowed to attend the games, their flag will not be displayed, no anthem will sound; and only Russian athletes that can prove they are clean will be invited to compete wearing a neutral uniform.

Netflix has decided to part ways with The Ranch star Danny Masterson as the LAPD continues to investigate multiple rape allegations against the former That 70’s Show cast member. Netflix’s announcement comes on the heels of an embarrassing story in which an executive from the company claimed they don’t believe the victims. Masterson continues to deny the claims made against him.
Beyonce made a surprise appearance at last night’s Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year Awards to present Colin Kaepernick with the Muhammed Ali Legacy Award. The athlete-turned-activist is also on the shortlist for Time Person of the Year which will be announced today after 7 AM.
